Sailors and navigation enthusiasts, this Davis Artificial Horizon is seriously cool if you want to practice celestial navigation without actually being on the water! It creates an artificial horizon that lets you take sun or moon shots with your sextant from literally anywhere - your backyard, rooftop, even through your window. The way it works is pretty clever - it doubles your sextant reading, which actually makes your shots more accurate than using a natural horizon, especially on those foggy mornings when the real horizon is hard to see. The kit comes with everything you need: the main unit, two different sun shades for different lighting conditions, a storage container, and clear instructions. It's perfect for beginners who are just learning celestial navigation because you can practice over and over without waiting for perfect conditions at sea. But experienced navigators love it too for keeping their skills sharp between voyages. You can even use it to determine your exact latitude from your home, which is just mind-blowing when you think about it. The quality is typical Davis - solid and reliable without being overly complicated. Whether you're preparing for an ocean crossing, teaching navigation skills, or just fascinated by traditional seafaring methods, this practice tool delivers serious value. It's one of those specialized tools that seems niche until you try it, then you realize how incredibly useful it is for mastering the art of celestial navigation. The fact that you can practice anywhere, anytime makes it worth its weight in gold for serious navigators.
